I asked you all to share the cleansers you are using, a few weeks ago. The point of the exercise was to see if you were getting the most out of your cleansers, and if the ingredients/formulas were beneficial to you. In this post I will share on what a great cleanser looks/does and feels like.
A great cleanser gives a deep yet gentle cleansing that soothes & nourishes the skin leaving it feeling clean, balanced, soft & glowing. There are also some things to note and avoid, if your cleanser has those properties, please get a better and efficient one.
Avoid the following properties in a cleanser
I know it's hard, but try to avoid the following ingredients; Parabens are a whole family of chemicals (methylparabens, propylparabens, butylparabens, and ethylparabens) that help preserve shelf-life of products. They’ve been linked to breast cancer, and since they act as a hormone disruptor they can lead to reproductive and fertility issues.
Sodium Lauryl Sulfate. SLS and SLES are known to cause skin irritation and trigger different allergies.
Petroleum and Mineral Oil Derived Ingredients; A by-product of the distillation of gasoline, these ingredients will strip your skin! Many cosmetic companies love to use petroleum-derived ingredients because they are cheaper than other ingredients.
DEA (diethanolamine), MEA (momoethnanolamine), and TEA (triethanolamine); you may see these on some of your cleansers ingredient list. They are also hormone disrupting chemicals.
Avoid products that have too much fragrance in them... Why? "“fragrance” is considered a trade secret which means that companies don’t have disclose what ingredients are inside. Often, the ingredients include tons of chemicals that can cause allergies"
Go for cleansers with the following qualities
Good cleansers are made with naturally sourced ingredients
They are for your skin type or condition
Does not leave your skin feeling tight or dry
Contains minimal to no fragrance
